Chargesheet filed against two corrupt officials in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 26 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation today produced a chargesheet against an executive engineer who was caught red handed while accepting bribe of Rs 15,000.

A vigilance spokesman said the organisation produced the chargesheet in the court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Kashmir, against Assistant Executive Engineer, Public Health Engineering Department, Sub Division Sumbal, Farooq Ahmad Khuroo, who was arrested on September 22, 2006.

The vigilance organisation had registered a case on a complaint lodged by Showkat Ahmad Bhat, alleging that Khuroo was demanding Rs 15,000 as bribe to process the final bill for construction of 80,000 gallon capacity reservoir at Pahlipora, he added.

During investigations, vigilance sleuths laid a trap during which the AEE was caught red handed while accepting Rs 15,000 as bribe.

The spokesman said the vigilance organisation produced another chargesheet against a junior assistant in Handwara tehsil office, Farooq Ahmad, who was caught red handed while accepting bribe of Rs 1000 on February 13, 2007.

The vigilance registered a case on a complaint lodged by Mohammad Afzal Sheikh, alleging that the accused was demanding Rs 1000 as bribe for processing his employment case under SRO-43.

During investigations, the vigilance officials laid a trap during which the junior assistant was caught red handed while accepting Rs 1000 as bribe, he added.

After accord of sanction, the chargesheet was produced against the two accused in the court of law, the spokesman said.
