A militant killed and major tragedy averted in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 26 (UNI) A militant was killed and a major tragedy averted by the security forces in the Kashmir valley overnight, a police spokesman said.

Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and 31 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched a joint operation at village Karmulla Batmore, Tral, about 35 km from here in south Kashmir district of Pulwama the spokesman added.

During the operation a militant was killed, he said, adding the operation was still going on when the reports last came in. One AK rifle and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militant.

Meanwhile, panic gripped village Saloora in Ganderbal district when a live grenade was found in the house of one Ghulam Nabi Bhat, last evening.

The family members were immediately rescued and bomb disposal Squad (BDS) summoned, who later defused the grenade without causing any damage.
