Bhopal, Nov 26 (UNI) As many as 1,372 females, including 779 minors, were gangraped during the four years of Bharatiya Janata Party rule in Madhya Pradesh, the government told the Assembly today.
The victims included, 401 belonging to Scheduled Castes, 361 to Scheduled Tribes and 425 to Other Backward Classes, Home Minister Himmat Kothari told Mr Ramniwas Rawat (Congress) in a written reply.
Altogether 148 gangrapes were reported between July 1, 2007 and November 15, 2007.
Seven deaths in custody and 8,730 suicides were reported between January 2006 and October 2007.
In a reply to Mr Rajesh Patel (Cong), Mr Kothari said that 1,030 rapes were reported in different districts between July 1 and November 15 this year. Other cases reported during the period include, murders (818), attempts to murder (882), dacoities (46), loot (688), kidnapping (346), rioting (1,000), house-breaking (4,272), theft (8,099) and attacks on public servants (611). A total 74,538 cases were registered during the period.
