Chennai, Nov 25 (UNI) Tamil Nadu were poised to register their first outright win, forcing a first innings lead of 200 runs and ahead by 385 runs after scoring 185 losing six wickets in 61 in their second innings at stumps against Karnataka on the penultimate day of the four day Elite Group A superleague Ranji trophy match here today.
R Ramkumar(20, 44 mnts, three fours) and R Srinivasan (17,83 mnts, three fours) were at the wicket, after opener M Vijay 47 off 115 balls in 175 minutes with three fours and two sixes and captain S Badrinath 46 off 86 balls with five fours and a six turned out to be the principle scorers. Badrinath, who scored a brilliant ton in the first innings, enjoyed a life. Karnataka medium pacer N C Aiyapa picked up three wickets for 36 runs.
Earlier, as the Tamil Nadu bowlers tightened their leash around their necks, as it were, Karnataka, resuming their first innings at the overnight score of 144 for 6, in reply to Tamil Nadu's 421, folded up for 221 in 71.2 overs. B Akhil 33 off 77 balls in 122 minutes with the help of seven fours and left hander Sunil Joshi, who also made 33 off 47 balls offered some resistance.
Tamil Nadu medium pacer R Amarnath claimed five wickets for 74 runs in 22.3 overs and left arm spinner R Ramkumar 4-65 to ensure the big first innings lead for Tamil Nadu, who are under pressure with just one point from their last two outings.
