Hyderabad, Nov 25 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Railways R Velu today said the railways had set a target of handling 1,100 million tonne freight during the 11th Five-Year-Plan.
Participating in the Golden Jubilee Founday Day of Indian Railways Institute of Signal Engineering and Tele-Communications (IRISET) here, Mr Velu said the railways would offer special incentives to achieve the target.
It would invite private players in the development of infrastructure and construction of warehouses.
Stating that the advanced signalling system has reduced accidents, he said plans were afoot to automate the signalling system in all stations.
He said the South Central Railway (SCR) was playing significant role in the growth of the railways by achieving 72 per cent operational ratio.
Institute of Public Enterprises (IPE) Director R K Mishra called upon the railways to change its 'vision and mission' to grow as a number one public enterprise in the world.
Inviting the MNCs, under Public Private Partnership (PPP), for developing infrastructure facilities in the railways would help the railways to emerge as one of the premier organisations in the world, he added.
