MLCU to promote ancient alternative healing

Shillong, Nov 25 (UNI) In order to promote and preserve herbal healing, an ancient alternative practice of healing, the Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU), Shillong, is contemplating to open opportunities for the folk healers and herbalists of Meghalaya.

As a step towards this objective, the MLCU University was considering taking a number of steps towards this end, in view of the fact that the Centre was also encouraging promotion of local health traditions, Chairman of the Society for Promotion of Indigenous Knowledge and Practices (SPIKAP) John F Kharshiing, said in a press statement here today.

As part of its initiative in association with the SPIKAP, Mr Kharshiing said the University had sent a delegation of folk healers and herbalist from the state, to participate in the Asia Conference of local folk healers.

The conference was organised by the Foundation for Revitalisation of Local Health Traditions, in collaboration with the Department of Ayush and attended by renowned allopathic doctors, ayurvedic doctors, heads of university colleges and NGOs in the field of local health traditions, he said.
