Leaking crest gates set right at KRS dam
Mysore, Nov 25 (UNI) The old crest gates of the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) reservoir across river Cauvery, which had resulted in leakage of huge volumes of water had been set right.
Chief Engineer Cauvery Neeravari Nigam (CNN) H K Krishne Gowda said at the Platinum jubilee function of the dam said the 75 year old reservoir was not able to retain water up to its full capacity over the years owing to faulty crest gates.
After the recent repairs the level has been maintained up to the brim for a record three months. The storage has been continuously kept at 49.25 tmc ft. About 24 faulty crest gates out of a total 152 gates had been reconditioned and the leakage of water arrested, he added.
CNN executive engineer K G Krishnakumar said due to increasing demand from Mysore city the flow of water in the canals as not sufficient. This had necessitated drawing the water directly from the river itself during the summer.
