KPTCL to spend Rs 5000 cr to correct distribution network

Mysore, Nov 25 (UNI) Karnataka Power Transmission Company Limited (KPTCL) will spend Rs 5,000 crore to streamline distribution system in the state, in order to bring down transmission losses during the next near, its managing director Bharat Lal Meena said today.

Speaking to reporters at Kadakola near here, he said the KPTCL had spent Rs 2,300 crore in this regard last year. The state stood fourth in terms of power supply and distribution, he added.

Referring to Centre-funded Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification in the state, he said, while the KPTCL had already completed works in 16 districts, it would be taken up in nine districts in the coming days.

Speaking at a seminar here Mr Meena said, the power distribution losses have drastically come down over the last two years after KPTCL incorporated modern technology in the distribution system.

Distribution losses had been brought down in both rural and urban areas. The networking in distribution has been thoroughly upgraded technically over the last two years to reduce the losses.
