Kalmadi hails Dola for doing India proud

By Staff

New Delhi, Nov 25: Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President Suresh Kalmadi today hailed archer Dola Banerjee for winning the gold in women's individual recurve event at the World Cup in Dubai.

''I congratulate Dola for her historic triumph and hope that she continues to bring laurels to the country," Kalmadi said.

Dola piped Korea's Eun Young Choi 110-109 in a nerve wrecking final in the Archery World Cup final at the Madinat Jumeirah last evening to become the first Indian to bag this title.

The World Cup final followed four legs of competition in Korea, Turkey, Italy and the England.

The Indian who has already qualified for the Beijing Olympics, had also won a gold in the last leg in Dover, England.

Though she did not take part in the competition in Italy, the Indian collected impresive 37 points and was placed fourth among the finalists.

In the World Cup final, all matches were 12-arrow contests, shot in four rounds of three arrows.
