Jammu, Nov 25 (UNI) Jharkhand tightened their grip against Jammu and Kashmir as the hosts were struggling at 85 for 4 chasing mammoth target of 375 runs on the third day of the four-day Ranji Trophy Group Plate B match here today.

Jharkhand jolted the hosts, who were chasing a big total, as they were at 85 for four at the end of day's play.

Jharkhand middle order batsman Saurabh Tiwari, who remained unbeaten at 64 previous day, led his squad from the front and piled up his best ever individual 169 off 279 deliveries with 21 smashing boundaries and two huge sixes over the rope.

Despite being injured, the tall man stayed at the crease for long and rotated the scoreboard with singles and doubles.

He added 93 runs with Sujit Roy for the last wicket partnership.

Looking exhausted in post lunch session, Tiwari got stumped by J&K wicket-keeper Sarabjit Singh off a quicker delivery from right arm off spinner Sameer Khajuria when he tried to play a big one.

Meanwhile, the tail-enders were sent back by the J&K pacers and Jharkhand offered the hosts to chase a huge target of 375 runs.

Sameer Ali and Sameer Khajuria restricted the middle order of Jharkhand with three wickets each while Samiullah Beigh took two followed by Raman Dutta and Majid Dar pocketing one wicket each.

Jammu and Kashmir youngster Ian Dev Singh (0), who opened the innings, was the first victim when he tried to play an out-swinger from S S Rao and caught behind the stumps whereas Javed Ahmed too fell early for five runs.

Vice-captain Arshad Bhat and Kawaljeet Singh, who were given no place in the team against Madhya Pradesh, today played some impressive shots but Kanwaljeet (25) was caught by Saurabh Ghosh on a delivery from Kuldeep Sharma.

Arshad Bhat, who was in good touch, misjudged a quicker one from Sujit Roy and was out leg before for 43 (7x4). Majid Dar (6) and Sarabjit Singh (0) were at the crease when bad light stopped the play.
