Delhi Tourism mulls mechanism for boosting tourism

New Delhi, Nov 25 (UNI) With a view to bring the national capital environmentally under the internationally acceptable standards, the the state government today said it was seriously thinking of setting up a proper mechanism for garbage disposal and river rejuvenation.

''We need proper garbage disposal and sewage treatment for making Delhi a true metropolis with synergic from all under the Tourism Vision for Delhi 2020,'' Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation Chairman and Managing Director Sanat Kaul said here.

The government has a proposal for river rejuvenation, he said, adding that ''We want river flow plan between Wazirabad and Okhla to be made green.'' Dr Kaul said the government plans to create a large water body to help solve the Delhi water problem.

''We have a plan to develop a 2 km long water sport complex which will have kayaking and canoeing of international standard and will provide water-based recreational sports to the public, including slalung,'' he said.

Commenting on the monuments, the CMD said Delhi Tourism with INTACH is developing the Mehrauli Archaeological park to preserve the monuments.

At present, 40 monuments have been restored in the park, and many more are expected to be restored in the future, he said.
