Clash between police and BJP workers injures 12

Mirzapur, Nov 25 (UNI) Twelve persons were grievously wounded in a clash between police and Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) workers, who were demanding arrest of the collectorate here today.

Additional Police Superintendent Ram Swaroop today said ''Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) workers and another group led by the collectorate had pelted stones upon each other during state-bandh yesterday.'' The closure was witnessed across Uttar Pradesh in backdrop of the serial bomb blasts in three courts.

Following this, the agitating BJP workers, who were demanding the arrest of collectorate Gabbar, pelted stones at the police in Mukeri bazaar of Katra area, he added.

Almost 12 people, including slueths, sustained severe injuries in the incident.

Meanwhile, uneasy claim is prevailing in the district.

Police in strength have been deployed to avoid any fresh violence in the area.
