New Delhi, Nov 24 (UNI) Former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee today strongly condemned the serial blasts in three major cities of Uttar Pradesh saying the incident was a part of a conspiracy of the anti-national elements to spread unrest in the country.
Terming the blasts as ''a deplorable act'', Mr Vajpayee paid tributes to those killed in the blasts and expressed sympathy for the injured.
''I have not been able to come to you, but I am with you all in this hour of crisis,'' the former prime minister said.
He appealed to the people of Uttar Pradesh, particularly of Lucknow, Faizabad and Varanasi, to maintain peace and harmony.
''Had our governments and security agencies been vigilant enough, one would have escaped these bomb blasts, '' Mr Vajpayee said, adding that the whole society and the country would have to work unitedly to fight the terrorist forces.
''Terrorists can take lives of innocent and unarmed people, but they cannot break the feeling of brotherhood among the people of the country,'' he said.
Mr Vajpayee called upon the people of the country to unite to fight against the challenges posed by these terrorist forces.
