Troop vacation will harbinger positive change on ground: PDP
Srinagar, Nov 24 (UNI) The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today welcomed troop withdrawal from school and hospital buildings in the Kashmir valley.
A PDP spokesman said vacation of troops would help in improving health and education sectors, which were lacking the requisite infrastructure.
He, however, urged the Army top brass to shift troops from all school and hospital buildings within the stipulated time, set by Defence Minister A K Antony.
The spokesman said vacation of troops, being a component of Confidence Building Measures (CBM), would harbinger a positive change on the ground.
''Relocation of troops from public property envisages a better, secure and a dignified life for the citizens of the state,'' he added.
Given the improvement in ground situation in Kashmir, the spokesman said the security forces should return to barracks.
Besides the troop cut, he said repeal of draconian laws such as AFSPA was a must to empower civil institutions in the state.
