Pondy CM urges entrepreneurs to set up Industrial Units

Puducherry, Nov 24(UNI) Stating that Puducherry was having a good Industrial climate with uninterrupted power supply, dedicated manpower and proper infrastructure facilities, Chief Minister N Rangasamy today called upon entrepreneurs to set-up their Industrial Units in Puducherry.

Speaking after distributing the Regional Export awards in a function organised by the Engineering Export Promotion Council(EEPC), Southern Region Office, here, he said at present 7600 Industrial Units were set-up here at an estimated cost of Rs 22,000 crore.

Mr Rangasamy said the administration would welcome all Industrial Units, barring Chemical and those which draw ground water and pollute enviornment.

Stating that the administration would soon start Special Economic Zones(SEZ) at Karasur here and in Karaikal, the Chief Minister said the Government would also explore the possibility of setting up Industrial Units.

Mr Rangasamy said the accessary units of major Industries such as Honda and Ford in Chennai could also be set-up here and exhorted the enterpreneurs to concentrate more on the quality of the export products, which alone could ensure Industrial development.

Speaking on the occasion, Mahesh K Desai, vice-chairman, EEPC said the Council would organise an Indian Engineering Exhibition in Russia from March 14 to 17 next year.

Mr Mahesh urged Mr Rangasamy to send a delegation from Puducherry so that the products from the Union Territory would be showcased.

He said during 2007, the Indian Engineering Export stood at 27 billion US Dollar, equivalant to Rs 23,305 crore, of which, the Southern Region contributed 19 per cent.
