Pak govt to facilitate ECP for holding 'fair' elections: Soomro

Islamabad, Nov 24 (UNI) Pakistan Caretaker government has announced that Election Commission would be facilitated for holding free, fair and transparent elections scheduled for January 8,2008.

Caretaker Prime Minister Muhammedmian Soomro said the government was taking steps for creating cordial and peaceful environment before, during and after the elections.

The government expects the political parties to ensure abiding by the Code of Conduct circulated by the ECP and follow the security guidelines issued by the Ministry of Interior, Associated Press of Pakistan quoted him as saying.

Mr Soomro called upon the voters to participate in the elections and use their right in the national interest.

He said the caretaker government would extend all possible support to the Election Commission to ensure conducive conditions to allow people to exercise their right to franchise.

The mandate of the caretaker government was to focus on continuation of reform-oriented policies aiming to improve the quality of life of the people, eliminating poverty and generating employment in the country.
