Mysore, Nov 24 (UNI) The three-day All India Bonsai Convention and Exhibition began at the Ganapathi Sachidananda Asharma here today.
The convention was inaugurated in an unique way with Sri Ganapathi Sachidananda Swamiji watering a Bonsai plant in the ashram premises along with foreign delegates.
The Swamiji said the concept of Bonsai was age old. It was mentioned in the epics like Ramayana, Mahabharatha and Bhagawath Purana.
Unfortunately, the concept of modernisation had resulted in continuous deforestation posing a threat to environment.
About 360 Bonsai experts from different countries along with their exhibits would give special lectures during the event.
Apart from this, the Kishkinda Moolika Gardens, raised by the Swamiji himself, had 300 items, including herbal Bonsai plants which had been on public view.
The 90-year-old Ld Daixo Lawaskai from Japan, considered to be the father of the Bonsai art, was honoured on the occasion with 'Sasya Bandhu.' The Postal Department brought out a first day cover and it was released by Chief Post Master General Meera Datta.
