Handle legal hurdles against minority quota effectively: TMMK
Chennai, Nov 24 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) today appealed to the State Government to handle effectively the case pending before the Madras High Court, challenging the separate reservation for Muslims and Christians, announced recently.
Speaking at a thanks-giving function to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for providing reservation to Muslims and Christians, TMMK President Jawahirullah said the persons, who had moved the court would even approach the Supreme Court in the future.
''The government should handle the case effectively to thwart the plans of those who oppose reservation for minorities,'' he said.
In his address, Mr Karunanidhi said providing separate reservation was a principle dear to his heart.
He said the welfare of minorities was running in his veins and expressed surprise for the thanks-giving meeting. He asked the members to thank late leaders like DMK founder C Annadurai and D K founder EVR Periyar instead.
