Gandhinagar, Nov 24 (UNI) Gujarat Chief Secretary Manjula Subramaniam is likely to ''seek time'' from the Election Commission (EC) to explain the state government's stand on the non-compliance of the poll panel order on the appointment of IPS Satish Sharma as Joint Police Commissioner of Ahmedabad.
Ms Manjula is indisposed and might seek a new date to meet the poll panel, official sources said. Ms Manjula has been summoned by the EC in connection with non-compliance of its order on the appointment.
The EC has summoned the Chief Secretary to Delhi tomorrow at 1100 hrs to know the reasons behind the delay by the state government in appointing Mr Sharma as the Joint Commissioner of Police (Sector I) at Ahmedabad in place of Mr P K Jha.
The EC had recently transferred three IPS officials including Mr Jha, considering the fact that these officers are close to the political leaders. Earlier, the Commission had ordered transfer of six IAS and IPS officers including Director General of Police P C Pande and Ahmedabad Police Commissioner J Mahapatra, after the announcement of Assembly polls on October 10.
Mr Sharma, an IPS officer of 1986 batch, is currently posted in the Anti-Corruption Bureau. The Modi Administration was not happy with Mr Sharma over an incident during the post-Godhra riots in Ahmedabad.
