Goa governor Jamir attacked

Dimapur, Nov 24 (UNI) Goa Governor and former Nagaland chief minister S C Jamir today survived an attack by suspected NSCN (IM) militants near Assam-Nagaland border.

Mr Jamir left Mokochung for Dimapur this morning and reached Tsueptala gate when the NSCN (IM) ambushed his convoy, officials accompanying the Governor said.

The cadres had reportedly used automatic weapons, grenades and even mortars but the 20-car strong convoy of the Governor managed to withstand the fire for over 25 minutes before leaving the scene.

The India Reserve Battalion (IRB) personnel and took Mr Jamir away from the scene.

There was no casualty on either side, officials said adding that three vehicles of the convoy suffered minor damages.

The proscribed outfit had, however, not claimed any responsibility for the attacks.

The Governor was in his home state the past few days and according to intelligence sources, the militants were keeping a close eye on his movements.

Today's attack on Mr Jamir was the third in the past one decade.
