Jaunpur, Nov 24 (UNI) Police today arrested a notorious inter-state criminal, who was also wanted in a 1995 Mumbai robbery case.
Addressing mediapersons here, police superintendent Lalji Shukla said a joint team of Special Operation Group (SOG) and Mungarabadshahpur police intercepted Anil Kumar Singh alias Bablu alias Lakhpati during a vehicle checking drive near Daulatian temple on Pratapgarh road.
Anil was riding a motorcycle and carrying an illegal pistol, three cartridges and Rs 30,000 in cash, when he was held.
He and his aide had looted Rs 1.18 crore of hawala money from the Manjid Bandar area of Mumbai in 1995.
Further, he confessed to shooting and robbing Madhupur Petrol Pump manager Chandra Prakash of Rs 2.72 lakh on November 19 here along with his two aides.
Anil had several criminal cases registered against him in Jaunpur and Pratapgarh districts of Uttar Pradesh, besides Maharashtra and other states, Mr Shukla said.
The police team that arrested Anil has been given a cash reward of Rs 2,500 by the police superintendent.
