New Delhi, Nov 24 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (ML) has strongly condemned the killings of tea tribe people in Guwahati today and demanded resignation of Congress Government in Assam.
Mr Dipankar Bhattacharya, General Secretary of CPI(ML) has said in a statement the tea tribes were raising their justified demand of giving them the status of Schedule Tribe for a long time, while in West Bengal, Jharkhand and Orissa they were already enjoying this status.
Mr Bhattacharya charged the Congress party of reaping the harvest of their votes by assuring to meet this demand in last elections and now refusing to meet the same.
Today's rally of tea tribes at Guwahati was against the betrayal by the Congress.
Despite prior information of the rally, there were no security arrangements and around two dozen people of tea tribes were kiled brutally, he added.
CPI(ML) General Secretary demanded to accord the status of Schedule Tribe without delay and said Gogoi Government should resign with immediate effect owning the responsibiliy for the administrative failure in preventing the massacre.
Mr Bhattacharya appealed to the people to maintain unity at all costs against every conspiracy of dividing them by instigations. UNI
