Mysore, Nov 24 (UNI) The country's first IT Finishing School's state-of-the-art campus of Raman International Institute of Information Technology (RIIIIT) was inaugurated by Karnataka IT and BT Secretary M N Vidyashankar here today.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that though the state produces more than 50,000 engineering graduates every year, only 30 per cent were employable in the IT industry. With the opening of the IT Finishing School the other engineering graduates would be able to obtain training with cent percent job placements.
He said the IT industry growth was 31 per cent this year and it was expected to grow to 50 55 percent during the next couple of years.
Mr Vidhyshankar said that in the first phase the intake would be 100 and 1000 in the next batch. The intake was expected to touch 10,000 with in couple of years.
RIIIT Founder and CEO S V Venkatesh said that ' our ambition was to churn out over 35000 plus industry ready professionals by the year 2009 and to dispel fears that the country's IT industry would loose out on new investments owing to dearth in quality manpower.
The new campus was a step forward in realising our dreams of fueling the IT economy of India and to make country the most preferred it destination in terms of quality manpower.
To mark the occasion a Conference on career opportunity and its requirement was held for the students. The students were given instructions on how to get equipped to meet the challenges and requirements of the IT industry. Eminent industry professionals briefed students about immense industry opportunities and guided them on various aspects pertaining to career building.
The Campus spread over 2.5 acres and equipped with state of the art Conference hall, Library and class rooms to accommodate over 2000 students. The RIIIT has also purchased another five acres of land and expected to open their second campus in it soon.
Software Technology Park of India (STPI) Director J Parthasarthy, who was also present, said that the government of India also planning to open such IT Finishing Schools in other parts of the country and a number of States already started showing keen interest to open such schools in their state.
