CMAG to closely observe Pak developments

Kampala, Nov 24 (UNI) Commonwealth Secretary General elect Kamalesh Sharma today said that the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) would be 'closely observing' political developments in Pakistan and take future course of action.

''In the case of Pakistan every development would be observed and addressed'' he told Indian newsmen soon after he was elected as the next Secretary General of the Commonwealth at the summit here.

The CMAG has suspended Pakistan from the Council of Commomwealth, pending the restoration of democracy and the rule of law in that country. It is expected to send a ministerial delegation to Pakistan.

Mr Sharma thanked the leaders for the ''responsiblity and trust they have given me to carry forward the work of commonwealth.'' It as an honour and previlage to serve this great institution. He pledged to work for evolving mechanism for security of the smaller states.
