Puducherry, Nov 23 (UNI) The Puducherry administration would ensure that the disabled were provided with three per cent reservation in government jobs, state Welfare Minister M Kandasamy said here today.

Inaugurating a sports meet for the disabled in connection with the ''World Disabled Day'' on December 3, Mr Kandasamy said steps would be taken to monitor whether three per cent reservation was being implemented in all departments.

He said since he belongs to a Dalit community, he could understand the problems of the poor and hence, several welfare schemes for their upliftment were being implemented here.

The administration had decided to give Rs 500 to the dalits for Deepavali festival. However, since, it would incur an additional expenditure of Rs 1 crore, it could not be implemented this year and would be implemented next year.

There was a complaint that the free rice being given to the differently abled through Puducherry Agro Products and Civil supplies Corporation (PAPSCO) is of sub-standard quality and is being delayed, he said, adding that to avoid this the free rice schemes for the disabled would be implemented by the social welfare department from next year.
