Mumbai, Nov 23 (UNI) Security in the metropolis was beefed up following the blasts in three district courts of Lucknow, Varanasi and Faizabad today.
''A close watch is being maintained on the activities around places of vital importance like domestic and international airport, major suburban railway stations, defence establishments, religious places like Mahalaxmi and Siddhi Vinayak temple, Haji Ali Dargah etc,'' a Police official said today.
According to sources, the security around 'Matoshree' the residence of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, in Bandra East, in the suburbs has been upscaled with the police deploying more staff.
Though Police and intelligence officials maintain that the security in the state, more particularly in the metropolis is on alert ever since the Ganesh Puja in September, which was followed by the festival of Eid and Diwali in the following months, today's developments have made them extra alert.
Senior police officials said that naaka-bandis has been organised all over the city and the police are looking out for suspicious elements.
At many places, bikers were seen complaining to the police that car owners are allowed to go without checking while two wheeler owners are thoroughly checked.
However, the police reason that many of the criminals use two wheelers for escaping as it is easier to get away on a bike rather than a car.
