Chandigarh, Nov 23 (UNI) The Punjab Government has decided to regularise all unauthorised sewerage and water supply connections in urban areas to provide relief to the consumers.
Disclosing this here today Local Bodies Minister Manoranjan Kalia said that it had been found that large number of unauthorised sewerage and water supply connections were operational in various cities of the state, which was clear violation of sections of Punjab Municipal Act and Punjab Corporation Act which had caused financial loss to urban local bodies.
Mr Kalia said that as per law, besides disconnecting unauthorised connections, heavy penalty could be imposed on connection holders. However to avoid inconvenience to the urban people and keeping their problems in view, it had been decided to give one chance to unauthorised connection holders to get their connections regularised.
He urged the unauthorised holders to immediately apply to their respective local bodies for regular connections before December end.
Those who fail to apply before the stipulated period would have to incur heavy penalities, he added.
