Hamirpur, Nov 23 (UNI) All preparations have been completed for ensuring free and fair elections in all the five assembly segments of Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh where elections are to be held in the second phase on December 19.
Addressing a joint press conference here district Deputy Commissioner and district electoral officer (DEO) Nandita Gupta and SP Asif Jalal said strict vigil has been maintained round the clock and barriers have been erected to curb the activities of anti-social elements.
Ms Gupta said polling in all the 414 polling booths, spread across all the five assembly segments, would begin at 0800 hrs and come to end at 1700 hrs.
Of the 414 polling booths set up in the state, 29 have been declared critical polling booths and the district election officials have been told to maintain a strict vigil in these booths, she said.
Ms Gupts said videography of such polling stations would also be done to confirm how 75 per cent polling was recorded in these booths and how a particular candidate polled 75 per cent of the total votes polled.
In all, the district has 3,44,761 voters, including 1,79,119 female and 1,65,642 male voters, she said.
The DEO said 2,196 voters have been found to have their names registered in two places and their names would be deleted from one of the rolls.
Speaking on the occasion, district SP Asif Jalal said 49 polling booths have been declared hyper sensitive booths and 85 sensitive.
Besides deployment of local police and home guard jawans, five companies central para military forces would also be requisitioned for ensuring smooth elections in the state.
In all, 1,816 police personals and 414 Home Guard personals would be put on election duty in the district, Mr Jalal added.
