New Delhi, Nov 23 (UNI) Targeting Rs 400 crore value-added services (VAS) industry in mobile segment, a US-based company today said it has set up a firm ''mCarbon'' offering services like interactive SMS, Mobiluv and Mobiflirt.
''One of the products, speed SMS, is an interactive SMS service, where one can use the services in a single SMS, rather than sending out multiple messages,'' said mCarbon President Gurmeet S Likhari.
Other services include Mobiluv and Mobiflirt allow the user to communicate with people who pay when they establish contact with a person, rather than paying for just using the services, he added.
''The market for mobile value-added services is currently Rs 400 crore and is expected to grow to around Rs 3,500 crore by 2010,'' said Mr Likhari.
With revenues growing at 45 per cent from these services, more telecom operators are turning toward VAS to boost their income, he added.
Built on an open application framework called Green Room, speed SMS can be used for promotion and content-based applications to peer SMS dialogues in the network, offering opportunities to the telecom players.
''We are in advanced stages of talks with telecom operators and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to incorporate our services,'' Mr Likhari said.
mCarbon, a part of MobileComm Professionals Inc, plans to set up a wireless engineers training industry, that will train youth for working in the booming telecom industry.
''There is tremendous growth in the telecom segment and the need for trained professionals is also set to rise. And we are looking at capturing this market,'' said Mr Likhari.
After a hike of 22.52 per cent in the telecom sector, the next phase of growth will be driven by the VAS segment.
