By Staff

Jammu, Nov 23 (UNI) Hosts Jammu and Kashmir took 28-run lead against Jharkhand as two complete innings were played on the first day of the Four Day Ranji Trophy Plate Group B match being played here.

Pacers from both the sides state the show as 20 wickets fell in a single day on grassy top with J&K leading with 28 runs. Playing in their second innings, Jharkhand openers were at 12 for no loss in seven overs at the close of today's play.

Earlier after winning the toss and deciding to bat first on green wicket with an aim to punish the new ball bowlers to set a big target, the visitors were shot put for meager 105 runs in 33.1 overs just 12 minutes after lunch.

Jharkhand openers Subrato Ghosh and Manish Vardhan faced the opening spells of J&K seamers but they were hardly allowed to stay long at the crease. J&K skipper Vijay Sharma, with highest wickets today in his pocket, damaged the visitors-strategy.

He bowled fiery spells in the beginning and later against at the lower order and managed a five-wicket haul for him.

Manish Vardhan (14), Aamir Hashmir (20), Shahbaz Nadeem and S S Rao (12) and Kuldeep Sharma (n.o 24) were the strikers for Jhrakhand thus helping their side to look stable at 105.

For the hosts, skipper Vijay Sharma clinched five followed by giant right arm medium pacer Samiullah Beigh with four wickets and Sameer Ali having one.

Moreover, J&K too crumbled in 33.3 overs for 133 taking first inning lead of 28 runs as Jharkhand bowlers Kuldeep Sharma and S S Rao nipped the ball and forced J&K batsmen to stay at back-foot.

Javed Ahmed with 20, Sameer Ali with 16, skipper Vijay Sharma (26) and tail-ender Samiullah Beigh with unbeaten 33 off 46 balls with three boundaries, rescued the host from the danger zone.
