Misbah ul-Haq scored a tenacious 82 before his innings came to an end thanks to a moment of amateurism by the batsman. Ul-Haq played the ball towards Karthik at point and set off for the single. Kartik picked up the ball cleanly and threw at the non-striker end, where Misbah was caught ball-watching, instead of grounding his bat into the crease. Misbah was caught unawares and jumped into the air to take evasive action against the throw, which created a passage for the ball to hit the stumps. And, as the ball hit the stumps, Misbah was mid-air and the third umpire had a fairly simple decision to make. Pakistan were 230/9 after Misbah went.
Misbah's partner, Mohammad Sami was left stranded on 28 of 101 balls. He played perfect foil in a partnership that tried to revive Pakistani hopes in the game and also succeeded in frustrating the Indian bowlers.
Immediately after ul-Haq was dismissed, India smelled the end, as Kumble bowled the perfect delivery to a number 11 and removed Danish Kaneria. It was a fast and full one which just breezed past Kaneria's defences. Kaneria gone, Pakistan all out for 231
India will now come into bat, hoping that their openers give them a good platform for a big score.
