Pathanamthitta, Nov 23 (UNI) Booker prize winner novelist Arundhati Roy today said the policy of a majority of governments in the country was to suppress Adivasi Dalit Backward sections.

She was talking to reporters here after expressing solidarity to the ongoing land-struggle led by the Sadhujana Vimochana Samyukta Vedi at the Kumbazha-Chengara Estate under Harisson Malayalam Plantation.

The respective governments were showing the same attitude towards the land struggle at Nandigram in West Bengal and the 'Narmada Bachao Andolan.' The governments which handed over acres of land to big landlords and foreign companies had no qualms in evicting poor backward people from their meagre farm-lands.

Ms Roy said the governments which had been suppressing struggles of backward sections of people against monopoly capitalists ''lacked the ear to hear'' the lamentations of mothers and children.

She said the Scheduled Castes and tribes were also waging struggles in Chattisgarh and Maharashtra. She called upon the Sadhujana Vimochana Samyukta Vedi activists to continue their struggle in the face of provocations from various quarters.
