Bangalore, Nov 23 (UNI) The city police today arrested a 54-year-old person who was posing himself as the personal assistant to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and duping people.
DCP (Central) B N S Reddy told UNI that Gunashekar Pillai had contacted a Doctor in the city and said he would get a de-addiction centre sanctioned in his name if he strike a deal with him.
After the doctor, Appaji Gowda, bought an air ticket as per his direction, the arrested flew from Delhi to the city and shifted to a guest house in Sadashivnagar. He then invited the Doctor for 'negotiations'.
Meanwhile, Mr Appaji Gowda spoke to his friend and Congress leader D K Shivakumar about the 'Sonia's PA'. The curious Congress leader visited the guest house but smelled something fishy and immediately alerted the police.
Police arrested the Chennai-based imposter and he would be produced in a court tomorrow, the DCP said.
Mr Reddy said the imposter used to cheat people promising sanction of gas agencies, petrol pump permits and other favours from the government and swindled lot of money from them.
