Double delight for Ryan, Bharathi in Vazirani junior tennis tourney

Mumbai, Nov 23 (UNI) Boys under-12 second seed Ryan Serrao and girls under-12 top seed Bharathi Bylapudi helped themselves to double crowns in the Vazirani Maharashtra State Ranking Junior Tennis Tournament that concluded at the Vazirani National Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai today.

Serrao ended the winning streak of Vivek Waghmare of Nanded with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph and later teamed up with Aditya Vyas to clinch the doubles title following a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Waghmare and Nikhil Kannan.

Serrao took control from the start to halt of the giant run of Waghmare who shocked third seed Nikhil Passi in the quarter-finals and top seed Aditya Vyas in the semi-finals.

''I was aggressive from the beginning and decided to take control early,'' explained Serrao as he clinched his fifth title of the season and his third at the Vazirani Academy. ''I just kept the ball in, while Vivek made all the mistakes, hitting wide most of the time.'' Vazirani lass Bharathi Bylapudi beat arch-rival and second seed Snehadevi Reddy 6-2, 6-1 in the singles final, and completed a rewarding campaign by snatching the under-12 doubles crown along with partner Nandini Das.

Top seed Nandini Das lived up to her growing reputation with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Prabhuti Singhania for the girls under-10 title, while Vatsin Thakkar and Mihika Yadav claimed the boys and girls under-8 titles, respectively, in contrasting fashion.

Results (All Finals): Boys U-12: Ryan Serrao bt Vivek Waghmare (Nanded) 6-1,6-0; Doubles: Aditya Vyas/Ryan Serrao bt Vivek Waghmare/Nikhil Kannan 6-1,6-2.

Boys U-10: Sahil Deshmukh bt Karan Mehta 6-3, 6-3.

Boys U-8: Vatsin Thakkar bt Dhruv Sunish 8-3.

Girls U-12: Bharathi Bylapudi bt Snehadevi Reddy 6-2, 6-1. Doubles: Bharathi Bylapudi/Nandini Das bt Sanyukta Baluni/Kavita Mishra 6-2, 6-0.

Girls U-10: Nandini Das bt Prabhuti Singhania 6-2, 6-1.

Girls U-8: Mihika Yadav bt Jagriti Sachan 9-8 (7-2).
