8 crore heroin seized, three arrested

Ludhiana, Nov 23 (UNI) Sleuths of the Directorate of the Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested three people and seized 8.413 kg heroin from their possession, near Doraha on NH-I, DRI sources said today.

The approximate value of the contraband which was seized last night was a little over Rs eight crore, the sources added.

The three accused who were travelling in the car were taken in to custody and later arrested under the NDPS Act. They were identified as Malkiat Singh a resident of Ganganagar in Rajasthan, his brother-in-law Gurcharan Singh and driver Balbir Singh.

The DRI officials intercepted the car near the toll tax barrier at Doraha and on search found the heroin concealed in false cavaties of three briefcases lying inside the vehicle. The drug was being ferried to Delhi from where it was to be taken to a Western country, DRI sources said.

The drug was given to the three arrested people by a Panch of Pandori Ladda village in Ludhiana district. The trio were to contact the Panch after reaching the national capital for further instructions, the DRI sources said while claiming that the panch was yet to be nabbed.
