Chennai, Nov 22 (UNI) Alleging that the law and order in Tamil Nadu had deteriorated under the DMK regime, AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa today urged the state government to restore peace in Tiruvarur district, where a DMK functionary was killed in a bomb attack recently.

In a statement here, she recalled the various incidents that took place in the state in recent months and more recently the killing of Tiruvarur DMK District Secretary Poondi Kalaichelvan. These were pointers that law and order had deteriorated in the state, she said.

She also urged the government to stop ''foisting'' of cases and prevent attacks on her party workers. ''The DMK workers are unleashing violence on AIADMK workers in the district in the aftermath of the killing of Poondi Kalaichelvan,'' she added.

She said buses were torched and shops in various parts of the district were vandalised. The DMK men were preventing plying of buses and forcing closure of shops, paralysing normal life.

The houses of AIADMK Koradacheri Town Panchayat Vice President Govindaraj and Tiruvarur District AIADMK Minorities Wing President S A Kavdiya's were attacked. The shop of Koradacheri AIADMK functionary Vincent Kalidas was vandalised.

The DMK men had let loose violence in the presence of police in places like Kankodutha Vanitham, Kavalakkudi and Kulikaarai area and houses of poor were demolished by using earthmovers, she alleged and urged the ruling DMK to take steps to restore normalcy in the district instead of foisting cases on AIADMK workers.
