Lucknow, Nov 22 (UNI) The 69th birthday of Samajwadi Party supremo and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav was today celebrated as 'Sankalp Diwas' in the state.
SP workers reached the party office here to greet Mr Yadav, who also cut cake on the occasion.
Later, addressing the gathering, Mr Yadav said it was not garlands or sweets, that he wished for on his birthday, but the unity of individuals, who pledge to fight for the cause of the common man.
The SP chief called upon party activists to rise above petty interests and factionalism to make a chorus for issues of public welfare.
Meanwhile, programmes such as seminars, public meetings and distribution of fruits, blankets and sarees to the poor were also organised in several districts of the state to mark the day.
Blood donation camps were also organised.
