Nagpur, Nov 22 (UNI) Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Rathod has demanded a CID Inquiry into the purchases made under the state government's special relief package for farmers.
In a letter to Minister of State for Agriculture Rana Jagjit Singh Patil, Mr Rathod said there was ''a possibility'' of irregularities to the tune of Rs 75 crore in the purchases. Material worth Rs 175 crore had been purchased for distribution to farmers under the package, he said.
Mr Rathod has put up an ''exhibition'' of what he alleges is inferior quality material outside the cottages here of the leaders of the Opposition in the two houses of the Maharashtra Legislature.
''There is a wide gap between the market prices of the material procured and the rates finalised by the government,'' he alleged.
Besides, suppliers had supplied short quantities, thereby robbing the government of crores of rupees, he alleged.
