Bhopal, Nov 22: A three-day Indian Science Conference beginning here tomorrow will discuss several important issues including scientific management of natural resources.
Former President A P J Abdul Kalam will be the Chief guest at the valedictory of the programme. Besides, several eminent scientists including Dr B N Johri, Dr Vijay Bhatkar, Dr Manju Sharma, Dr S M P Khurana and Professor K I Vasu will also be present.
Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology (MAPCOST) Director General Mahesh Sharma told newspersons here yesterday that the issues to be raised during the conference would provide basis to the Centre and the state governments for framing polices in scientific fields.
''Scientific management of natural resources has become an important issue not just in national perspective but in global perspective against the backdrop of burning issues such as Nandigram violence and campaign to protect Narmada,'' he said.
Prior to inauguration of the conference, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will inaugurate the Indian Science Expo at the sprawling Lal Parade ground here. Planning Commission member V L Chopra will formally inaugurate the conference tomorrow.
Noting that India had joined the club of selected countries in the field of science, he said this achievement would be showcased during the expo.
Along with these events, Youth Science Congress would also be organised during this period wherein 48 young women scientists would read out research papers. The conference would discuss situation of bio-technology in Madhya Pradesh.
Pointing out that artists and craftsmen had significant creative contribution, Dr Sharma said about 80 craftsmen from various parts of the country would take part in the event.
