Association urges for banana and flower export zone

Tiruchirapalli, Nov 22 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Horticultural Crops Producers Association urged the state government to establish a 'banana and flower export zone' here, as Tiruchirapalli and its surrounding areas were well known for banana and various flowers.

Association 'state' President Puliyur A Nagarajan in a press release today said the banana plantation growers and floriculturists were suffering a lot for not getting economic price for their products and the establishment of an export zone would help them get better yield.

Mr Nagarajan also urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to include banana in the menu of noon meal scheme for school children as it contained lot of nutritious values.

A large number of members of the Association would take part in the proposed rail roko agitation here on November 27, by various farmers associations to urge the Centre to fix Rs 1,000 as MSP for per quintal of paddy.
