6 held for selling cartridges to naxalities

Ballia, Nov 22 (UNI) Police today arrested six people for allegedly selling cartridges to naxalities and other criminal outfits in the neighbouring state Bihar.

Acting on a tip-off, the police raided a weapons shop in the city and detained five men who were buying cartridges, Police Superintendent Amitabh Thakur said.

During primary investigations, their weapon licenses were found fake, which had been issued from Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Nagaland and West Bengal.

Later, during similar raids conducted at other arms shops and detection of their records, it was found the buyers mostly hailed from Buxur, Bhabhua and Sasaram in Bihar.

Police also unearthed gross irregularities in the maintainance of records and arrested six shopkeepers Sudhir Singh, Vivek Kumar, Krishna Murarai Gupta, Suresh Kumar Gupta, Pradeep Kumar and Jawahar Prasad.

On interrogation, the five persons, who were earlier detained, confessed to the crime, saying they had been in the illicit trade since last five years.

Further, investigations were still on.
