40 persons injured in train accident in West Bengal
Khargpur, Nov 22 (UNI) At least 40 Railway employees travelling by Bharatdarsan Special train were seriously injured when up TATA Passenger from Howrah rammed into it tonight near Shyamchawk station.
Two compartments were derailed due to the accident, Mr Ranjan Tewari, DRM, Khargpur said.
The Bharatdarsan Special, which was standing between Shyamchak and Jakpur stations due to signal failure, was hit by TATA passenger running on the same track from Howrah from behind at about 2030 hrs.
The injured employees were immediately sent to Kharagpur Railway Hospital, 15 kms away from the spot.
A relief train led by Divisional Safety officer, Debasis Chandra immediately rushed to the spot. All up and down train movement on the South Eastern Railway have been suspended following the accident, sources said.
