Moradabad, Nov 21 (UNI) The development work on four laning Delhi-Lucknow National Highway between Hapur to Moradabad district is stopped due to nearby 250 trees that lie under the Hastinapur wildlife sanctuary.
The broadening of the 91.25 km long highway as four lane commenced on March 31, 2005, sources said today.
Besides, extension being given for completion of the highway till May 2008, the project seems to be lagging due to non co-operation by the forest department.
The trees, which lie on the border of the sanctuary, could only be cut on the permission of UP government or orders of the Supreme Court.
The state government has asked the National Highway Authority to develop 10 metre area on sides of the highway as green belt, which seems a tough task, due to the presence of the sancturay on the northern side of the highway.
