Saurav to lead in World team squash

By Staff

Chennai, Nov 21: National champion Saurav Ghosal, who is ranked no 49 in the world, the highest for an Indian, will lead India's challenge in the 21st ICL World Team Championship to be held here from December 6 to 12.

Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI) Secretary General N Ramachandran said Saurav will be joining the squad from Bermuda after participating in the world individual championship.

The team will also have former national champion Ritwik Bhattacharya (ranked no 72), Siddharth Suchde (ranked 149) and Gaurav Nandrajog(ranked 141). Harinderpal Singh Sandhu will be the non-playing reserve.

Ritwik Bhattacharya is all set for the event following his good performance in Malaysia and Hong Kong earlier this month. In Hong Kong, Ritwik qualified for the main draw defeating world no 55, Chris Simpson in the main draw before going down to world no 18 Adrian Grant.

Gaurav Nandrajog participated in six PSA events and reached the quarter finals twice. He had also played in three PSA closed satellite events in Chennai and emerged the winner in all three, Ramachandran said.

The four players had represented India in the previous edition of the world team championships in Pakistan and had finished 11 in a field of 22 countries.

The World Squash Federation will release the draw for this edition soon, in which 29 teams would be vying for honours.
