Rajasthan favours 10-20% reservation for poor among Higher Castes

Jaipur, Nov 21 (UNI) The Rajasthan government has expressed its willingness to extend ten to 20 per cent reservation to economically weaker strata in non SCs, non STs and non OBCs, subject to the recommendation of the Rajasthan State Economically Backward Classes Commission.

The state government conveyed this in written to the National Commission for Economically Backward Classes (NCEBC) during the meetings held here yesterday, NCEBC Member Secretary Mahendra Singh told reporters here today.

The commission yesterday held a series of meetings and discussions with Social Welfare Minister Madan Dilawar, Chief Secretary DC Samant and the Rajasthan State Economically Backward Classes Commssion Chairman Justice Shashi Knat Sharma.

The state government had strongly favoured reservation benefits for poor strata in the above category and Rajasthan was the only state in the country which had set up commission at state level to do extensive work for this task, Mr Singh observed.
