PGIMER to host Annual Pulmonary Conference from tomorrow

Chandigarh, Nov 21 (UNI) The Department of Pulmonary Medicine of the PGIMER here is hosting a four-day joint Annual Pulmonary Conference (NAPCON) of the Indian Chest Society and the National College of Chest Physicians from tomorrow.

At least 2500 experts, including some from major international associations of pulmonary and respiratory critical care, are participating in the meet, the PGI spokesperson said here today.

These include the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Thoracic Society, the European Respiratory Society, Asia Pacific Society of Respirology and the Asian Allergy and Asthma Foundation.

The various subjects being deliberated at the Conference include asthma, tobacco smoking, chronic obstructive lung disease, lung cancer, tuberculosis and other respiratory infections.

Interstitial lung diseases, respiratory sleep disorders, critical care and ventilatory management, thoracic surgery, pulmonary thromboembolism and other disorders are also being discussed.

An important aspect of the conference include the sessions on different medical perspectives such as the economics of medical care, medical ethics, terminal care at the end of life, the role of religion in terminal care and other similar issues.

The conference will include six workshops for "hand-on-experience", she said.
