Bhubaneswar, Nov 21 (UNI) The Orissa Assembly was adjourned for the third consecutive day today as stalemate prevailed in the house over the Opposition's demand for a special debate on the recent police lathicharge on the farmers and teachers in different parts of the state.

As soon as the House assembled for the day to take up the question hour, both the Opposition and treasury bench members were seen on their feet showing posters and banners and shouting slogans.

Speaker Maheswar Mohanty tried to pacify the members but in vain and was then forced to adjourn the House at 1032 hours, hardly two minutes after the House assembled, till 1130 hours.

The house reassembled but was then adjourned by Deputy Speaker Prahallad Dora till 1500 hours for the lunch without transacting any business.

When the Assembly again met after the lunch at 1500 hours, Mr Dora came to the chair and announced the House adjourned for the day. The Assembly has been witnessing a furore for the last three days as the Opposition remained adamant in their demand for a discussion over the police action on the farmers and the teachers suspending all other business of the House.
