Karnal, Nov 21 (UNI) The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has approved a project for putting up electronic sign boards for the convenience of drivers along the national highway from Panipat to Jalandhar.

The invariable message changer boards, known as electronic sign boards in common parlance, would alert the drivers about the flow of traffic ahead, disruption if any on the road at a certain point, information about dense fog ahead and direct them to go slow upto certain kms in accident prone area, Haryana AIG Traffic and Highways Rajpal Singh told UNI here today.

The sign boards visible even in dense fog would also flash the ways to drive in fog as well as phone numbers of traffic and highway control in case of any untoward incident.

Besides, the running message would also indicate diversion to another route to the drivers in case of any jam or blockade on the road, he said.

The work on the project would start from January next which would not only reduce the accident rate on the highway but also smoothen and facilitate traffic on it, Mr Rajpal added.
