New Delhi, Nov 21: Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today said there was a need for developing new technology to tackle the acts of terrorism effected through electronics gadgets.

Replying to supplementaries raised in the Rajya Sabha during the Question Hour by Mr S S Ahluwalia of the BJP, Mr Patil said many of the recent blasts, including those in Hyderabad, had been triggered by mobile phones.

''Investigations conducted show the clear use of electronic technology for effecting many of the recent blasts,'' Mr Patil said.

The Home Minister, however, said the resolution of such activities could not be done through law.

''We have to evolve technological means to tackle such cases. We need to come up with a new and better technology to foil the designs of the terrorists and those trying to create mischief,'' Mr Patil said.

Pointing out that in many cases of blasts being triggered through mobile phones, the terrorists had managed to decode the cellphones, the Home Minister said, ''we need to develop a more advanced technology to stop these mischief makers who always seem to be a step ahead of the law enforcement agencies.''
