Bhopal, Nov 21 (UNI) About 11,500 HIV positive cases and 2,428 AIDS cases were detected in Madhya Pradesh till September.
The fact was revealed during a two-day workshop -- organised jointly by the Madhya Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (MPSACS) and UNAIDS, New Delhi -- focussing on measures to control HIV and AIDS here today.
MPSACS Project Director Saleena Singh said the number of estimated HIV cases had come down. The number of HIV testing centres had been increased to 50. The facility to HIV-affected pregnant women was made available in five medical colleges in the State.
Besides, third anti-retro viral therapy centre would start in the state soon. At present, there centres were functioning in Jabalpur and Indore.
UNAIDS National Convenor Dennis Brown said a joint action plan was needed to control the disease. Participation of voluntary organisations was necessary.
Representatives from media would give their view on spreading awareness about the disease and controlling it.
